Hi! I’m Coach Kay.
I am the founder of Psyres, LLC., a brand that focuses specifically on holistic health and wellness. I cannot wait to meet you and develop a unique connection to help you thrive in your healthy and well-rounded lifestyle! But first, here’s a bit more about me and how/why I became a coach.
When COVID-19 took the world by surprise, I was sent home to work remotely out of a one-bed, one-bath apartment in Tampa, Florida. The problem? So was my husband. We managed to work productively for a couple of months, but the tight space and close quarters had us both feeling like we had an excess of pent up energy to release. We were both athletic and had participated in a variety of physical fitness activities, with my husband having done triathlons and me having done several Spartan Races. So, we decided to look into joining a gym in the area — one that was still functioning and finding work-arounds with the COVID restrictions in place. We landed at CrossFit Hyde Park.
We were introduced to incredible coaches who were highly knowledgeable and who took a vested interest in seeing us grow as athletes and individuals. Although I went kicking and screaming the first couple of weeks, scared of being judged for my lack of know-how and entirely too sore, my eyes were opened to the importance of physical wellness in combatting decrepitation throughout life. I fell in love with the concept, studied the science rigorously, and even took extra classes offered by the coaches to broaden my understanding.
Then, my husband and I moved to Germany. I decided to take the leap and become a CrossFit Coach. Once I completed my Level 1, I became an apprentice under Andrew Martz, a Level 3 CrossFit Coach and the owner of Teutonic CrossFit in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Andrew holds his coaches to high standards, and my apprenticeship lasted nearly 8 months before I officially became a Teutonic Coach. I owe my coaching eye, plethora of coaching cues, and sheer determination to help my athletes improve to the efforts Andrew took to develop me as a professional and well-rounded coach.
From there, I looked for more opportunities to gain knowledge on all things functional-fitness. I took multiple gymnastics courses, a coaches development course, and spent countless hours understanding human anatomy and mobility. I offered to conduct individual mobility assessments on my athletes, and create custom mobility protocols for them. I coached 5 days a week for two years straight, and I met an unbelievable amount of amazing human beings at various stages of their fitness ventures. At the same time, I was in school to get my PhD in Forensic Psychology, with a specialization in Crisis Response. My research focused on generational differences in resilience, and how those differences may be impacting turnover intentions and attrition among a population that regularly experiences highly adverse circumstances (law enforcement and first responders).
I started realizing that I was having a valuable impact on my athletes, and rather than getting up every morning to go to work, I was getting up to make a difference in someone’s life and fitness journey. I found myself humbled with immeasurable purpose — and I recognized my life’s calling. I started brainstorming ways I could use my education to develop my own brand, one that would help people realize and achieve their physical holistic health and wellness goals, while simultaneously focusing on proactive mental health, individual resilience, and the psychology behind decision-making and changes in behavior.
I decided to take my certifications, my coaching experience, and the knowledge I’ve gained from my own research and the educational courses I’ve taken, to create a business model that uses science to promote functional fitness coaching, custom mobility protocols, resilience assessments, and resilience training at the individual and group levels. All of this in an effort to assist people in their pursuit of a holistically healthy lifestyle that prepares them for anything, teaches them how to adapt and persevere, and that offers proactive solutions to delay decrepitation throughout the natural human lifecycle.
Put simply, coaching people through how to cultivate longevity.
